Pastoral Support

The vast majority of the work I do involves supporting individuals after the death (or loss) of their beloved animal companion(s) and other difficult times of transition. There are a variety of ways I can support you.

  • FREE Monthly support group via Zoom (details)
  • One-on-one personal support
  • Support when animal companion is lost/missing/stolen
  • Discernment and support during end of life decisions
  • Support after the loss
  • Assisting in creating a loving memorial service
  • Support for those suffering from compassion fatigue
  • Support for those on the front lines such as veterinarians, activists, etc.
  • Assist other clergy in understanding the importance of animal loss to their members
  • Support individuals in their quest to consume fewer animals

All services are offered exclusively via Zoom. Sign up for a free account >>HERE<<

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you and why do you do this?
Please take a look at my info under >>about<<.

Are you a real minister or did you get ordained on the Internet?
This is a legitimate question. While I’ve never understood it, many people like to get “ordained” online and then hold themselves out as bona fide ministers. Unitarian Universalists must go through a rigorous preparation program before becoming ordained. That being said, if you are going to get ordained online I suggest visiting here

For my UU friends, I’m a fully fellowshipped minister. I was elected Minister Emeritus of Westside UU Church in Ft. Worth Texas. I’m now an Affiliated Minister with the Church of the Larger Fellowship.

Do I have to be a Unitarian Universalist or “religious” in order to receive support?
Heavens no! I will meet you wherever you are in terms of religion/spirituality. There is a saying handed down by UU tradition that says “we need not think alike to love alike.” So, if you believe God directs everything, I will support you. If you believe God is a human-made construct, I will support you.

I read/heard that you are vegan. Do I have to be vegan to work with you?
Absolutely Not! The vast majority of the people I support are not vegans. Again, my job as a chaplain is to meet you where you are and support you. Now, if you want to know why I’m vegan just >>go here.<< And, if you are interested in eating fewer animals or even becoming vegan yourself, I can help you.

Where do you live?
I live right outside of Chicago, Illinois in the United States. However, because I offer support exclusively via Zoom (or telephone) geography shouldn’t be a factor in receiving support.

Do you charge for your services?
There is never a fee required to attend my monthly support meetings. However, I will ask at the end of most meetings that attendees donate to the UU Animal Ministry, where I serve as Chaplain.

Additionally, for those desiring one-on-one support, I do not charge for our first meeting of 30 minutes or so. This gives us an opportunity to meet and talk and for me to hear your story. You can see if you like my style and how well we fit together. Should you want to continue meeting after our initial free session, I request payment of $40 for a half-hour meeting or $69 for a 55 minute meeting.

Payment via PayPal will be required when you schedule a 30 minute or 50 minute meeting through my calendar.

How do I get started?
Just get on my calendar for a free 30 minute Zoom conversation. We will talk about your situation, how I might help, and see where we go from there.

Do you have any animal companions?
Yes! Maisy is a grey tabby and Libby is a calico. They are both rescue cats who will sometimes find her way into my Instagram feed. She is the first cat companion I’ve shared a home with as an adult. I was always a “dog guy” until Maisy and Libby helped me expand my love for felines.
